What is an ISWC and where do I get it?

The ISWC (International Standard Musical Work Code) is a unique, permanent and internationally recognized reference number for the identification of musical works. It's exactly like the ISRC but for each of your Works - the underlying composition. This code gets you paid your performance and mechanical royalties.

You can get an ISWC:

  • from us by requesting one, which will take between 2-4 business days.

  • when you register your Work with us. Once the Work is Registered, we'll automatically assign the ISWC that was issued by your PRO.

When do I need to request an ISWC?

  • You should request an ISWC when you want to distribute with us. Why?

  • So that we can send it to the DSPs when we distribute your music. What will happen then?

  • The reports sent from the DSPs to SOCAN will be accompanied with your ISWC and there will be a match.

  • It is not mandatory, but this significantly increases your chances of getting your royalties paid.

How long does it take to get an ISWC?

  • 🐎 2-4 business days with MusicTeam®

  • 🚢 4-8 weeks with your PRO because you're issued an ISWC only after you submitted a Work Registration.
