How does it work?

Musical Works Registration notify your Performing Rights Organization (PRO) and all other collecting societies that you have created a new piece of music. They collect the royalties owed to you as a songwriter, composer or lyricist, when your music is streamed, downloaded, purchased, performed, broadcast, and so on.

Traditionally, you would manually enter your musical Work metadata into your PRO's portal and proceed with the registration. However, at MusicTeam®, we have made it easier for you as a creator. We understand that you will eventually need to share the same metadata with other stakeholders in the music industry. Therefore, our platform ensures that the metadata you enter for your Musical Work Registration is readily available for your use during distribution for example.

We help you manage your musical Works. It is essential for your career and long-term goals as it ensures financial stability, creative control, copyright protection, and opportunities for growth and recognition in the ever-evolving music industry.

Documenting your metadata is not a complicated task in itself. Before MusicTeam® can register your Works, you'll need to have documented some basic metadata. The good news is that once you've entered it we verify it and you never have to input the same metadata again.

Verifying your profile serves as a critical tool to dispel ambiguity, prevent fraudulent activities and establish credibility within your artistic community. It also minimizes the risks of having work registrations rejected by your PRO.

The profile metadata we verify:

Your profile verification is a crucial step in our onboarding process. Once your profile has been successfully verified, you will be awarded a verification badge. The badge serves as confirmation that your identifiers have undergone thorough verification and validation. This verified metadata is securely sealed to prevent any potential manipulation or falsification, ensuring the integrity of your profile information.

The verification badge not only signifies authenticity but also signals your active presence and engagement on the platform, signifying your commitment as a dedicated creator.

The ISWC is used to identify your Works. We can obtain ISWCs, prior to the registration of your work, within 2 to 4 days. Traditionally, you would only receive your ISWC after registration, which would incur the normal 6-8 weeks delay. The only information we require from you is the full names and IPIs of the rights holders and the title of your musical work.

Requesting an ISWC is not mandatory to register your Works; however, it provides an added benefit for you. Obtaining an ISWC early allows you to share that code during distribution, enabling PROs to easily recognize your musical Works when they receive reports from DSPs. Once we have issued an ISWC for your Work, you will need to ask MusicTeam® to submit your Work for registration with your PRO to complete the process.

Once you have added your Works to your repertoire, you will be able to submit them for registration. As soon as your Work registration process is initiated, we take care of registering your Works with participating PROs, ensuring that your Works are properly monetized.

We have established a checkpoint to ensure that all the required metadata is properly completed. Additionally, you will need to grant us the exclusive mandate to submit your Works for registration (only for those entered and submitted to the MusicTeam® Digital Catalog). Throughout this entire process, you have the ability to track the progress of your registrations, with updates provided through various statuses, offering you transparency and peace of mind.
